What is Easter All About?

On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

According to the Bible, Jesus was raised from the dead three days after his death on the cross.  As part of the Easter season, Palm Sunday is celebrated the Sunday before Easter and corresponds to the triumphant entry of Jesus into the City of Jerusalem when the Jews hailed him as their King.  The death of Jesus Christ on the cross is commemorated on Good Friday.  Through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, thus purchasing eternal life for all who believe in him.

In Western Christianity, Easter marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline in preparation for Easter.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday.

Because of the commercialization of Easter, many Christians choose to refer to the holiday as Resurrection Day.

The biblical account of the death, burial and resurrection, can be found in: Matthew 27:27-28:8; Mark 15:16-16:19; Luke 23:26-24:35; and John 19:16-20:30.

Do you want to be baptized on Easter Sunday, or learn more about baptism? We want to hear from you!

Being baptized demonstrates our willingness to follow the example of and commands of Jesus and gives us the opportunity to make a public statement of faith that we are believers in Jesus Christ.

"We know that we have come to know Him if we obey his commands." 1 John 2:3 (NIV)

Jesus said, “Go then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and then teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
